8:00 AM – 4:00 PM
School begins at 8:30 am and ends at 3:00 pm; 8:30
am – 1:30 pm on Thursday and minimum days. All
kindergarten students are dismissed at 12:10 pm on Thursdays
and minimum days. Students are not to report before
8:00 am. Supervision is not available before 8:00 am.
If a student is to be checked out of school before
3:15 pm, an authorized adult must report to the office
to sign the student out. Students will not be released
to anyone under 18 years of age or to unauthorized adults.
Please do not ask to sign you child out of class after
2:30 pm, unless you have an emergency. To repeatedly
sign your child out of school is a violation of the
state attendance law.
Students are unsupervised after 3:15 pm. Parents who
consistently send their children to school too early
or pick them up late will be required to meet with the
site administrator and/or school officer, social worker,
or dean of student services.

The school phone is a business phone. Please handle
all pick-up and other arrangements with our child before
he/she comes to school. Please do not call the school
office and ask for a message to be relayed to a student
or to speak to the student in class. Only emergency
messages will be relayed. The principal or office staff
must approve telephone use by students. Please be advised
that students will not be allowed to phone home for
homework, lunch or filed trip permission.
Breakfast and lunch are served at Anna Yates. Applications
for free and reduced meals are distributed at the beginning
of the school year. These applications must be completed
properly and returned for approval before students can
take advantage of the program. Students who do not turn
in applications or do not qualify for the program must
pay full price for meals. Students are allowed to bring
lunch and beverages. Soft drinks and candy are not allowed.
Food costs are as follows:
- Full-Price Breakfast- $1.00
- Reduced-Price Breakfast- $0.30
- Full-Price Lunch- $1.50
- Reduced-Price Lunch- $0.40

Uniforms are mandatory. Uniforms must be clean and in
good repair. Uniform requirements are as follows:
Tops
Colors – white, navy or light blue, khaki
Types – Polo shirts, button down, blouses, turtlenecks,
sweaters, sweater vest.
All shirts must have collars. Tee shirts and pattern
shirts are not acceptable. However, students are allowed
to war Anna Yates emblem tee shirts.
Bottoms
Colors – navy blue, black, khaki
Types – pants, walking shorts (knee length),
skirts, jumpers, skorts, Capri pants.
Solid navy blue sweat pants and dresses are acceptable.
Jeans or denim bottoms are not part of the school
uniform.

In order to ensure that all students here at
Anna Yates have the opportunity to be in a productive
learning environment, guidelines, rules and responsibilities
must be present.
Basic School Rules
- Stay positive! Keep hands, feet
and negative language to yourself.
- Follow directions the first time.
- Use school property and materials
with care.
- Stay in assigned areas. Do not enter
the halls unless accompanied by an adult or carrying
a hall pass.
- Complete all assignments and allow
others to do the same.
- Refrain form bringing toys, candy
and other extraneous personal items to school.
Prohibited Behaviors
- Deliberate classroom disruption
and defiance of authority.
- Assault.
- Physical or verbal threat or action
against another person.
- Fighting.
- Using, possessing, or selling any
dangerous or illegal drug.
- Wagering or betting money or other
stakes on an activity’s outcome.
- Vandalism.
- Deliberate destruction or damage
to property of another persons or of the school.
- Weapons – possession of any
item, including firearms, knives or other dangerous
objects, which could cause injury.
- Harassment or intimidation of students
or staff members.
- Habitually using profanity or vulgarity.
- Fighting and/or assault will lead
to automatic suspension. There will be no exceptions.

Prescription or over-the-counter medicine is never to
be sent to school with a student. Parents must fill
out a special form to be completed by the child’s
doctor before medicine can be administered at school.
Every visitor must sign in at the office and receive
a visitor’s pass before visiting any part of the
school (including parents and volunteers). Parents should
not expect to confer with teachers except during prearranged
times. Parents are welcomed to visit classrooms, however,
teachers must be notified on day in advance.

Attendance is taken seriously at Anna Yates.
Students who are consistently absent from school are
missing valuable instructional minutes they cannot recover.
Any pupil subject to a compulsory full-time education
is considered truant under the following conditions:
- Three unexcused absences within
on report card period.
- Three unexcused tardies within one
report card period.
- Any combination thereof.
Students who have excessive excused absences and tardies
are subject to truancy policies and procedures.
Any student who is classified as truant will meet
with appropriate school personnel to discuss solutions
to the pupil’s truancy. Should the truancy continue,
the parent/guardian will be required to attend an Emery
Unified School Attendance Review Board meeting to determine
what can be done to improve the student’s attendance.
Severe cased will be referred to the Alameda County
of Education District Attorney’s office.
Valid excuses for absences include:
- Illness
- Quarantine
- Medical Appointments
Attendance at a funeral for a member of the immediate
family or household (students may be excused for one
day for a funeral within California and three days for
a funeral outside the state).
Court appearances Religious Holidays/reasons
Notes explaining your child’s absence should
be returned to your child’s teacher upon returning
to school. Please include your and your child’s
first and last name, dates of absences and teacher’s
name.

Safety is a major concern at Anna Yates. We ask
parents to support our efforts in providing a safe environment
for students by reinforcing school and classroom rules,
and appropriate school behavior. We beseech parents
to follow safe driving practices around our school and
drop off and pick up students at curbside's and not
from the middle of the street.

The report card used at Anna Yates is based on
California State Standards. Report Cards are issued
at the end of each trimester. Parents need to attend
teacher-parent conferences scheduled in November. Additional
conferences may be requested at any time by written
or verbal request with the teacher.
Label your child’s possession so that lost items
may be returned (including classroom numbers). Do not
write the phone number or name where it is visible on
the personal possessions for safety reasons. The school
is not responsible for lost or damaged items.

Lost items are to be taken to the office where they
will be placed in a secured area. Lost items will be
available in the multipurpose room for students and
parents on Thursdays from 2:00 pm – 3:00 pm. Lost
items are stored for one week only. Unclaimed items
will be donated to a local charity.
