Visitors

Parents should not expect to confer with teachers except during prearranged times. Parents are welcomed to visit classrooms, however, teachers must be notified on day in advance.

Attendance
Attendance is taken seriously at Anna Yates. Students who are consistently absent from school are missing valuable instructional minutes they cannot recover.

Any pupil subject to a compulsory full-time education is considered truant under the following conditions:

  • Three unexcused absences within on report card period.
  • Three unexcused tardies within one report card period.
  • Any combination thereof.

Students who have excessive excused absences and tardies are subject to truancy policies and procedures.

Any student who is classified as truant will meet with appropriate school personnel to discuss solutions to the pupil’s truancy. Should the truancy continue, the parent/guardian will be required to attend an Emery Unified School Attendance Review Board meeting to determine what can be done to improve the student’s attendance. Severe cased will be referred to the Alameda County of Education District Attorney’s office.

Valid excuses for absences include:

  • Illness
  • Quarantine
  • Medical Appointments

Attendance at a funeral for a member of the immediate family or household (students may be excused for one day for a funeral within California and three days for a funeral outside the state).

Court appearances Religious Holidays/reasons

Notes explaining your child’s absence should be returned to your child’s teacher upon returning to school. Please include your and your child’s first and last name, dates of absences and teacher’s name.

Safety
Safety is a major concern at Anna Yates. We ask parents to support our efforts in providing a safe environment for students by reinforcing school and classroom rules, and appropriate school behavior. We beseech parents to follow safe driving practices around our school and drop off and pick up students at curbside's and not from the middle of the street.

Report Cards
The report card used at Anna Yates is based on California State Standards. Report Cards are issued at the end of each trimester. Parents need to attend teacher-parent conferences scheduled in November. Additional conferences may be requested at any time by written or verbal request with the teacher.

Personal Possessions
Label your child’s possession so that lost items may be returned (including classroom numbers). Do not write the phone number or name where it is visible on the personal possessions for safety reasons. The school is not responsible for lost or damaged items.
